Tiverton Conservatives have announced their candidates for the Devon County Council elections in May. The Conservative-led council oversees essential services, including Highways, Education, and Adult Social Care.

The selected candidates are:

  • Toby Gray for Tiverton West
  • Colin Slade, current county councillor, re-standing for Tiverton East
  • Paul Osman for Willand & Uffculme

Toby Gray brings a wealth of leadership experience as a former Commanding Officer of the Coldstream Guards and Battlegroup Commander in Afghanistan. Resident in Tiverton West, Toby lives with his wife, they have four grown children. Educated at the Royal Agricultural College, he is committed to rural issues. Toby is driven to enhance opportunities for young people and businesses alike, championing aspiration and growth. If elected, he pledges to advocate tirelessly for the residents of Tiverton West, ensuring their needs are met and their lives enriched.

Colin Slade has served as a councillor since 2017, previously holding the title of Mayor of Tiverton from 2019-21, and is a local charity trustee. Colin recently “called in” a controversial landfill planning application enabling residents to give it the widest possible scrutiny and debate, and when it came to the DCC Development Management committee Colin was pleased to propose refusal and the vote was unanimous. With a track record of addressing local priorities, he promises, if re-elected, to continue improving services that matter most to residents, making Devon an even better place to live.

Paul Osman is Devon born and bred, residing in Hockworthy where he raises pedigree Suffolk rams. Now retired after a career as an engineer in South Molton and Wellington. Paul already serves on Borden Gate Parish Council and as a county councillor will use his time and energy representing the community’s voice on adult social care, promoting opportunities for young people, and environmental sustainability. If elected, he aims to champion these causes while keeping council tax and business rates low to support families and local businesses.

Together, the candidates are committed to:

  • Protecting and enhancing Devon’s transport, particularly local roads and bus services.
  • Improving community services, including education, social care and protecting the environment.
  • Keeping council tax and business rates low to support high streets and local businesses.

Jean Parbrook, Chairman of Tiverton & Minehead Conservatives, stated, “We’ve chosen these three candidates because they embody the best of Tiverton’s dedication to community and service. Their combined experience and commitment make them exceptional candidates who will work tirelessly as councillors on Devon County Council.”
